An important year for the Tolly trio

In the early months of 2015, I tweeted that the year might well belong to Jisshu Sengupta as he had not two or three but five releases. Well, Jisshu ended the year back in the reckoning thanks to his Byomkesh film and his short but impactful role in Srijit’s Rajkahini.

2016 may be big for Parambrata as there are three important releases featuring him- Kaushik Ganguly’s award-winning Cinemawala, Srijit’s multistarrer Puja release Zulfiqar (an adaptation ofJulius Caesar’ and ‘Antony & Cleopatra’) and Anjan Dutt’s Hamlet adaptation- Hemanta where he plays the title role. He has already impressed as one of the central characters in Kaushik’s romantic thriller Bastushaap early this year (Read its review on this blog here). His long-in-the-cans Hindi movie Traffic is also releasing.

Jisshu seems set to continue riding the high waves for he has three important releases too. His next Byomkesh film based on Chiriakhana will release (An ambitious one indeed, considering the same story was filmed by Satyajit Ray by the same name starring Uttam Kumar as the legendary protagonist). He also has important roles in Zulfiqar and Hemanta.

But the highest stakes belong to Prosenjit who will have six releases this year including two in Hindi (He is acting in Traffic). The first in the queue is the Poila Baishakh release Shankhachil- The Indo-Bangladesh production helmed by Gautam Ghose. May will see the comeback of his romantic pair with Rituparna after fourteen years in Shiboprosad-Nandita’s Prakton. Kamaleswar’s yet-untitled film starring him, Raima and Paoli will be releasing too and he is expectedly the central attraction in Zulfiqar.

Let’s see who makes the best of the opportunity.
