1. Sir Alfred Hitchcock learnt about New Empire and Lighthouse theatres back in US. On his visit to Kolkata, he was taken to New Empire as he had enquired about these places. He watched his cult film Psycho and was mighty impressed by his experience of the theatre. It is because of the incredible mass popularity of the use of art and myriad themes in the design of the pandals (marquee) and idols (of Hindu gods and goddesses) in most of the several thousands of pujas.
